The United States National Debt Clock in Times Square has recently run out of digits to display the nation’s increasing debt. The clock can no longer accommodate the amount of money that America is borrowing.
The digital dollar sign has been replaced with the numeral one necessary for the roughly $10.2 trillion debt amount. An improvised dollar sign has been placed next to the one temporarily.
A new clock is in the works and its installation is scheduled for 2009. The new clock will have the ability to track up to a quadrillion dollars.
The current clock was built in 1989 to keep the nation aware of the then $2.7 trillion debt. The recent $700 billion bailout plan could send the amount over $11 trillion, said the Associated Press.
