Funky and chaotic dance rhythms will be enjoyed by any who visit Velour on Sept. 26 to see homegrown alternative/indie band Elizabethan Report. The band recently moved to Los Angeles, but they will return to play with One Man Short, also a local Utah band from Springville.
Elizabethan Report is known for its clever songs, but if catchy lyrics alone don’t suit you, you can look forward to watching the unique way the band uses its surrounding environment to make music. In past performances, Elizabethan Report played with some rather non-traditional instruments such as a dust mat and a megaphone. They also dance wildly and altogether put on a very entertaining and never disappointing show.
For those who haven’t heard Elizabethan Report, this is your chance. Just so you know what to expect, here is a rough approximation. Influences include The Strokes and Talking Heads, but what does the actual band sound like? Imagine a mix of vocals from The Bravery and Franz Ferdinand combined with Vampire Weekend. Add a pinch of wild stage dancing for good measure.
Why care about Elizabethan Report? First of all, they’re local – support them. Also, they recently were invited to play at the NAMU festival with big-time names like Bob Dylan, Gnarls Barkley and The Roots. Although they are still unsigned, a great future is in the making for these Provo locals.
Check out their two albums ARE YOU A MURDERER? and HOLA MAY. Be prepared to smile and don’t be afraid shake it – with rhythms like these, you can’t help it.
