Aqui y Ahora: Ni de aqui, ni de allá

Muchos inmigrantes ilegales vinieron a los estados unidos cuando eran muy pequeños con sus padres.

Estos niños no tuvieron otra opción más que seguirlos a ellos; nadie les preguntó si querían venir y adoptar otra cultura lejos de su tierra natal.  Ellos fueron a la escuela primaria, muchos se han graduado de la secundaria y muchos de ellos hablan Inglés mucho mejor que su idioma natal.

Ellos se encuentran en un limbo legal.  “He vivido casi toda mi vida en los Estados Unidos, me trajeron cuando tenía 5 años, no conozco a nadie en México.” Rocío Soria comenta. “Me gradué de la secundaria y asistí unos años a la universidad en New York City, pero no pude continuar mis estudios”.

Ellos no pueden recibir ayuda financiera y ten algunos estados ni siquiera educación universitaria. Algunos se gradúan de la universidad pero ahi se estanca su educación y progreso ya que no pueden usar su educación para trabajar y mejorar la comunidad porque no tienen documentos legales.

El dream act podría cambiar esta realidad; pero muy pocos saben que es el dream act, de qué se trata y a quiénes podría beneficiar.

Para saber más acerca de este proyecto de ley, se llevará a cabo un simposio explicando todo lo relacionado con el Dream Act.

Los oradores serán: Jose Enriquez, fundador de Latinos en Acción y administrador en Mountain View HS, Lynn England -Decano retirado del departamento de Sociología en BYU-actualmente es el instructor de Ciencias de Comportamiento y Mark Álvarez (escritor editorial y asesor de derecho.

Este evento se llevará a cabo el 17 de noviembre en la biblioteca, LI 120 a las 2:00 p.m.  Todos los estudiantes, profesores y miembros de la comunidad están invitados.
