A war is continuing today led by Joseph Kony, a war leader of the Lord Resistance Army that has continued for 23 years, involving the kidnapping of around 3,000 children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old in Sudan, Uganda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Central African Republic.
Peace negotiations have stopped after 4 attempts and a rescue plan is in the making for the month of April, ending in a huge event April 25 in hundreds of cities throughout the United States and Canada.
UVU students Jeremy Reynolds and Rachel Robbins have helped in organizing the Invisible Children Club on campus to join the aid efforts. One can receive more information in the clubs office, LC101a.
Reynolds and Robbins have organized a showing of The Rescue Thursday, April 23 from 8-10 p.m. in SC 206c to educate students and faculty on some history as well as inform students about the rescue plan taking place on April 25.
“The rescue plan is for peace, in hopes to return the 3,000 children soldiers home and to stop the genocide and war that has been going on too long,” Reynolds said.
To prepare for the rescue the club invites all to participate in a peace walk from the northern end basement of the LA building to the WB building, around the loop and back to the LA building, on April 23 from 10:45-11 a.m.
Reynolds invites everyone to wear white shirts, Invisible Children attire or creative Invisible Children slogan shirts for the walk.
