After four tournaments, the women’s golf team finished up the first half of their season.
Their first tournament took them to Fruit Heights to compete in the Weber State Invitational. “We came in second in the four team tournament that Weber State hosted,” said David DeSantis, women’s head golf coach.
Next they traveled to Denton, Texas to compete in the North Texas Fall Classic, where they placed ninth as a team. In this tournament two freshmen stood out: Brittany Butler from Sugar Land, Texas and Monica Fox from Holladay.
Coach DeSantis said, “Butler’s had the best year so far out of all the players. She’s had the biggest improvement in scoring.”
Their third tournament was held in Post Falls, Idaho for the Bulldog and Eagle Invitational. For this tournament all five starters had their best rounds. UVU finished in 13th place after two days of competition.
The final tournament took place in Arroyo Grande, California at the Lamkin Cup/Cal Poly Invitational. As a team they placed 17th. Butler once again showed strength during this tournament having the top score for the wolverines.
Having his first year as the women’s golf coach, DeSantis is proud of his team this year. “Four of the starting five shot under 80 this semester, which was good,” DeSantis said.
Kasey Larson, a senior from Gridley, California, also showed great strength this year. “She had the best round as a colligate at our last tourney shooting 76,” DeSantis added.
The team will return to the course during spring semester for four more tournaments. “We want to improve on our team scoring average,” DeSantis concluded.
