Ogden, Utah — The Utah Valley University volleyball team won their fourth straight match with a three set sweep of in-state foe Weber State at Swenson Gym on Monday night (25-21, 25-22, 29-27).VB pink game vs CSUB 10-1-15 -8

The Wolverines improved to 12-10 overall and 7-2 in Western Athletic Conference action.  Weber drops to 5-17 overall and 1-9 in the Big Sky Conference. The win also marked the seventh time in the last eight matches that UVU has come out on top.

“You sometimes wonder about these midweek matches, but it’s always good to go on the road and get a win,” said UVU head coach Sam Atoa in a statement to wolverinegreen.com. “It’s great to be able to keep the momentum going as we look forward to returning to conference play this weekend.”

It was comeback city all night for the Wolverines.  In the first set, Weber jumped out to a 12-7 lead before UVU went on a run to tie it at 16.  UVU scored the final six points of the set to win 25-21.  Abby Jensen led UVU with seven kills in the first set.

In the second set, UVU jumped out to an big early lead at 14-7, which included a 9-1 run.  Weber got as close at two but UVU slammed the door shut on any thoughts of a rally and won the set 25-22.

The third set was the most exciting of the match.  Trailing 24-20 and facing a set point on four straight occasions, UVU rose to the challenge led by sophomore Madison Dennison. Dennison helped the Wolverines score five unanswered points to take a 25-24 set-point lead.  Weber responded with two points of their own to take the lead at 27-26.  Dennison then put the game away with back-to-back kills and a Wildcat error to sweep the match for UVU.VB pink game vs CSUB 10-1-15 -2

The Wolverines take on Grand Canyon on Thursday evening and then on Saturday travel to face CSU Bakersfield.
