The Utah Valley University lacrosse team had yet another successful weekend Mach 26-27. They played two victorious home games against Fort Lewis and Northern Colorado.
Friday evening’s weather made for snowy playing conditions against Fort Lewis on the BYU North Field. Slush notwithstanding, Utah Valley played phenomenally and sent the Skyhawks packing with a final score of 19-10.
Saturday afternoon proved to be a pleasant and sunny 45 degrees for the players and many spectators gathered to witness Utah Valley and Northern Colorado face off behind the education building.
The Wolverines were able to take the lead early in the game and maintain it to the end while Northern Colorado attempted to match their pace, always two steps behind.
Halftime brought a score of 5-3 with Utah Valley working together exceptionally as a team. In the final half they scored six goals to Northern Colorado’s four to make the final score 11-7.
Coach Kevin Perkins remarked that the intensity of team practice has increased and this has helped the team to play as well as they do.
“We’re really coming together as a team,” stated Perkins.
Perkins considered this a breakout game for freshman Peter Santamaria, who scored three goals against the Northern Colorado Bears. Brian Tyrrell also scored three goals and had one assist along with Chris Lanham who aided to the team victory with two goals and two assists. Both Tyrrell and Lanham are freshmen on the team this year. Perkins called this a solid transition play from the midfielders.
