The softball team played in-state rival Utah twice in four days, April 2 and 5, dropping both games at 6-2 and 8-3.

The losses put the lady Wolverines 7-18 on the season going into last weekend’s road trip to Portland to face Portland State in two double-headers.

The lady Wolverines first faced the Utes in Salt Lake City as they hosted the UVU Invitational on Utah’s field due to renovations being done on the Wolverines’ field.

The lady Wolverines welcomed Southern Utah, Northern Colorado and Utah to the UVU Invitational. Utah Valley faced Southern Utah and Utah in two days of play, April 1-2.

The lady Wolverines ultimately fell 0-3 in the invitational as they faced Southern Utah twice and Utah once.

In the first day of invitational play, Utah Valley first faced Southern Utah. The lady Wolverines got an early two-run lead in the first inning and held the T-Birds for three innings before they scored four in the fifth inning, giving SUU a two-run lead.

Southern Utah wrapped up the game in the seventh inning, bringing two more runs across the plate and taking the game 6-2.

Day two of the invitational saw the lady Wolverines face Southern Utah early in the day. The T-Birds tallied two runs each in both the second and third innings before Utah Valley hit the scoreboard in the fifth, bringing in one run.

The lady Wolverines tied it up in the sixth inning by bringing in three runs, but the T-Birds secured themselves the game at 5-4 in the seventh, scoring one run and holding Utah Valley to no runs.

Utah Valley had a few hours break before getting back on the diamond against the Utes that afternoon. The Utes had a three-run lead before the lady Wolverines brought in two runs in the fifth inning. Utah didn’t follow the lady Wolverines for very long as they tallied another three runs in the bottom of the fifth giving them the 6-2 win.

The lady Wolverines then traveled back to Salt Lake City to again face Utah in a mid-week game last Tuesday where they also took a loss, 8-3, against the in-state rival.

Utah Valley will remain on the road this week as they travel to Seattle to face Seattle University April 16-17 in a four-game series.

The lady Wolverines will then play cross-town rival BYU April 19 before returning to their home field April 22 in a four-game series against Northern Colorado.
