End in sight for Atlanta Braves’ Bobby Cox

The long time manager of the Atlanta Braves has signed a one-year extension with the club, but announced that he will retire following the 2010 season. Cox managed the Braves from 1978-1981 and then took the reins in Atlanta again in 1990 and has been the skipper ever since. He guided the Braves to 14 consecutive division titles including a world championship in 1995. He has also been named Manager of the Year four times. 

 

Former Wolverine Mitch Jones takes home Bauman Award

Mitch Jones of the Albuquerque Isotopes, triple-A affiliate of the L.A. Dodgers, finished the regular season as the Minor League home run leader with 35 dingers. The annual home run king in the Minor Leagues is awarded the Bauman Award. Jones stole it on the final day of the regular season with a two-run homer to take the lead over Jon Gaston, a member of the Houston Astros Minor League club.
