Wolverines improve in final round of Red Rocks Invitational

Utah Valley improved by seven shots in the second and final round of the 2010 Red Rocks Invitational at the Oak Creek Country Club and finished in fifteenth place.

The Wolverines were just two shots behind Montana State for fourteenth and just 11 shy of finishing in the top 10 of the 18-team tournament.

Abbie Lei Archibald was one of three UVU golfers to shoot their best round in Sunday’s final 18 and was the top finisher, tying for forty-eighth. Brittany Butler had the low round of the tournament, an 81, and improved on Saturday’s round by eight shots. Stephanie Fox also shot four strokes better in the final round.

Host Northern Arizona won the team title by four shots over Cal Poly while Portland’s Paige Rachor took home medalist honors with a one-shot victory over two Cal Poly golfers.

The Wolverines will be off until March 25-26 when they compete at the Cal Poly Lamkin Match Play.

Wolverines win in 13 to complete four-game sweep of Southern Utah

Utah Valley basebasll scored six times in the thirteenth inning to survive a wild 19-13 win and complete of a four-game sweep of Southern Utah on Saturday in rainy St. George.

Cole McWhorter scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch and the Wolverines (4-3) tacked on five more runs in the thirteenth. Jason Zundel, who threw out what would have been the game-winning run from left field in the bottom of the ninth, drove in a run in the 13th and Chris Benson and Kevin Arendse both had two-RBI doubles in the inning.

UVU jumped out to a 10-1 lead after the top of the second and seemed on its way to an easy win, but the T-Birds (0-8) fought back and actually took a lead in the eighth.
