Today the Owlz fought back after a two game losing skid, and got the win against the Great Falls Voyagers, 8-4. Right hander Baudilio Lopez gave the Owlz five strong innings only giving up one earned run.
The offense today was supplied in part by C.J. Cron. He gave the Owlz their first lead of the game in the bottom of the 6th inning, with a monster two run home run to right center. He later added another RBI with a base hit in the bottom of the 7th.
Having been plagued by mistakes of their own, the Owlz reversed their fortunes tonight and took advantage of some mistakes by the other team. In the bottom of the 7th with runners on first and second, center fielder Drew Martinez, laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position. That play ended in two runs for the Owlz when the third basemen for the Voyagers made a wild throw to first trying to get the speedy Martinez.
“When the guy (Martinez) is the fastest guy on your team that puts extra pressure on the other team to make that play,” said Owlz manager, Tom Kotchman.
The Owlz scored four runs total in the 7th, proving to be the difference in the game.
Pitcher Junior Carlin proved to be human, allowing his first run of the season when he gave up a solo home-run in the top of the 7th. Later he received some help from right fielder Ryan Jones, who caught a pop fly and threw out the runner attempting to retreat to first base.
Taylor Lindsey continued his stellar defensive play on the diamond. With one runner on first and no one out in the top of the 9th, Lindsey made a great diving stop to his right, flipped it to shortstop Trevor Hairgrove, who promptly completed the double play by stepping on second and throwing to first.
Closer Danny Reynolds ended the game getting to Voyagers to pop out to left, putting an end to a forgettable losing streak.
