The UVU College Republicans officially opened their new headquarters on Saturday, August 24.

The new building has an approximate $14,000 monthly rent that was given to the party by generous donors. High-profile donors such as Utah’s own Representative Jason Chaffetz donated $1,000 to the new space.

The new building for the County Republican Party was donated for the purpose of having a step up from other political candidates in the valley.

The office includes a conference room, media room, candidate workspace, and even a “war room” for planning campaigns.

The office will give the party a place to reach out to the community and ultimately, to help the Republican candidates obtain office. The Utah County Republican Party plans to do this with the help of a number of interns from UVU and BYU.

The office will have eight part time interns who will assist with polling, general office work and fundraising. The interns will be responsible to reach out to around six thousand voters a month through calling and face-to-face communication.

The UVU College Republicans have doubled in membership since last semester due to their involvement with popular events. The club participated in events such as visiting the state capital, a night to commemorate the second amendment and composing letters of thanks to veterans. They wish to change the stereotype of Republicans and update it to relate to the younger generation of voters.

“Anyone can be involved… [We] hold most of our events with the College Democrats here on campus,” Stan Lockhart, former Chairman of the Utah Republican Party said. “We want to show that bipartisanship is possible, and there is something for everyone.”
