Thursday afternoon marked the beginning of a new chapter in the history of UVU.
Construction was finally completed on a new on campus building. Housing five departments, the building was officially opened for use by the University after the ribbon cutting ceremony on August 11. President Holland was present with members of his Cabinet.
“This is a great day for this part of the Universities operations,” President Holland said. “The leadership of this operation is so committed to the people who work for them and for this campus. They have made the campus grow with intelligence and polish. We couldn’t do it without them.”
President Holland remarked on the contemporary design of the building, but also said that it blended nicely with the look of the campus.
Remarks were also made by the building’s architect, Scott Prior of Prior and Associates Architects, as well as Val Peterson, Vice President of Administration, and Jim Michaelis, Associate VP of Facilities. Michaelis was given the honor of cutting the ribbon for the new Parking Services building.
The new building, located on 936 South 400 West, is a two-story “all purpose” facility that encompasses five main departments. These departments include Campus Scheduling and Faculties, Motor Pool, Purchasing and Parking.
As many students have found out, Parking Services was recently squished into a small renovated 1960’s house that left much room for improvement. Their new location is spacious, with 20 offices, a conference room, a trendy break room and an open lobby with vaulted ceilings. The building itself uses geothermal heating/cooling and is even uses partial solar power. UVU uses innovation at its best in the new Parking building.
