The Utah Valley University women’s soccer team came up just short of a WAC Tournament Championship, losing to New Mexico State University 1-0 on Sunday.

The Wolverines outshot the Aggies 18-8 and 6-3 in shots on goal, however after the Aggies’ lone goal just before halftime, the Wolverines were unable to reclaim control of the game offensively and went scoreless in the match.

UVU had back-to-back chances to score in the 26th minute, however, both shots by Faith Webber were saved by NMSU. Webber would get another chance in the first half in the 33rd minute that was also saved.

The Wolverines would keep at it, with Heather Stainbrook getting a shot on goal in the 49th minute during the second half, but NMSU’s Makenna Gottschalk was on her game and picked up her fourth save of the contest. She would go to save two more Wolverine attempts on goal in the 65th and 85th minutes of play. Recording six saves on the night, the Wolverines were unable to get past Gottschalk and the pesky Aggie defense.
