This semester, the Cinema Studies program is excited to be partnering up with the International Center to bring UVU students some of the best foreign films around. The series will begin on Sept. 10 with the classic Okamoto film “The Sword of Doom,” a tale about a sociopathic samurai and his descent into madness. Other essential films will be on tap for the semester, such as Ingmar Bergman’s “The Seventh Seal,” as well as more contemporary pieces, like Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire,” winner of this year’s Academy Award for Best Picture.

Besides the International Cinema series, the Cinema Studies program will be continuing the successful run of last year’s Cult Film series with an all new lineup of cult classics. The schedule is yet to be determined, but a repeat of Rocky Horror Picture Show during Halloween is a sure thing. The infamous A Clockwork Orange is slated for this fall as well.

All screenings are free and open to the public. Films are shown at the library auditorium (LI 120) at 7:00 PM. Faculty members with expertise on the subject will usually introduce the films and lead a discussion following the film. Students and community members are invited, encouraged and pleaded with to participate. Films are shown with their original unedited content and language, with English subtitles when necessary.

Finally, as president of the Cinema Studies Club, I’d like to invite you to join our club this fall, as we have many exciting events in the works.
