Wiley and the Hairy Man, the Theater department’s first performance of the school year, begins this week. The show is specifically developed for the department’s annual Theatre for Young Audiences, so it is appropriate for children of all ages, as young as those in elementary school.

The play has a simple plot and theme, but one that is universal to audience members. Wiley is a fearful 10 year old that lives near a swamp, where the notorious Hairy Man, a mythical, magical Sasquatch character, lives. Wiley lives with his mother and his dog, cleverly named “Dog”, and is forced to face his many fears as he endeavors to rid the swamp of the Hairy Man, with the help of some magic soil and bravery taught to him by his mom.

Wiley is directed by Assistant Theatre Professor John Graham and is narrated by a chorus, full of fun rhyming and rhythm that is sure to keep children intrigued throughout the whole play. The show begins Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and will run daily through Oct. 2, excluding Sundays, with Saturday afternoon 1:00 p.m. matinees as well. Tickets for the show are only $7 with a valid UVU student ID, and are $9-$11 without. Tickets are available now by calling the Noorda Theatre Box Office or visiting them online at www.UVU.edu/theatre.
