Determining the value of an education can be a bit tricky in difficult economic times.
Some find it difficult to invest the time and money into an education, without the promise of a positive outcome, a job. However, the students at this University have weighed in, and made the jump, and the decision to complete their education looks to be paying off.
“[UVU] graduates are much more likely to have studied business, computer science or other high-paying, career-oriented subjects, giving them a statistical edge in salary rankings,” Pak said in an interview with the Salt Lake Tribune.
In 2008, a person with a bachelor’s degree earned 53 percent more than a high school graduate and 96 percent more than a high school dropout, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
“In my last semester at UVU, I got an internship that ended up turning into a full-time job. The day I graduated, my pay tripled,” said Roman Nicholes, a recent web design graduate.
“UVU exceeds neighboring schools in their percentage of bachelor’s degree graduates earning $40,000 or more.”
In 2004, UVSC graduates were among the highest paid of all Utah college graduates, according to the Utah Foundation. This success may be due to this institution being surrounded by several high-tech companies that provide higher paying jobs.
As the newest university in Utah, UVU exceeds neighboring schools in their percentage of bachelor’s degree graduates earning $40,000 or more, according to a recent study by Richard Pak, a research analyst for the Utah Foundation.
In an evaluation given to graduates, the college scored highest in overall learning,critical thinking and classroom sizes, according to a 2009 Alumni data report.
With today’s economy and competitive work environment, higher education is a valuable tool.
