Jaime Lyons scored three goals for UVU to lead the Wolverines to a convincing 4-0 victory over North Dakota in Great West Conference play.

Lyons’ hat trick is the fourth in school history and the first since 2003. UVU head coach Brent Anderson said he was pleased to see Lyons play that well.

“It was great to have her break out like that,” he said. “North Dakota plays a very high defensive line and we didn’t adjust to that the last time we played them. That’s something we worked on because we knew if we created the opportunities and stayed onside the shots would fall for us.”

With the two teams deadlocked at 0-0 in the thirty-first minute, Lyons took a pass from Adrienne Schneider and Kendra Buchanan and found the back of the net to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.

It wasn’t long after that when Lyons found herself in the open field after a pass from Kelly Vide and sent the ball past North Dakota keeper Lauren Sera to give her team a 2-0-advantage heading into the break.

In the forty-eighth minute, Danielle Anderson continued the onslaught for UVU when she scored her first goal of the season to make it 3-0.

Lyons capped things off in the seventy-fifth minute with her third goal of the day—completing her hat trick and giving her a team-leading five goals on the season.

Tasha Bell and Hailey Brown recorded the shut out for UVU. The Wolverines also outshot the Fighting Sioux 23-4 in the contest.

As part of the Pink With A Purpose weekend for UVU’s soccer and volleyball teams, the Wolverines donned pink jerseys in order to help raise money for nine-year-old Hannah Laursen, who is fighting brain cancer.

The win improves the Wolverines’  to 4-10-1, including 3-0-1 in conference play. North Dakota drops to 1-11-2 and 0-4-1 in the conference.
