Orem, Utah — September 9, 2026

Utah Valley University (UVU) has officially launched their first scholarship for Concurrent Enrollment (CE) students. The Freshman Concurrent Enrollment Scholarship allows allowing current high school students to earn up to $20,000 across 4 years.

The scholarship hosts two tiers: the CE Outstanding Merit Scholarship and the CE Exemplary Merit Scholarship. The CE Outstanding Merit tier awards $3,500 a year to students who have earned 15-29 Concurrent Enrollment credits at UVU. The CE Exemplary Merit tier awards $5,000 a year to students with over 30 concurrent enrollment credits. Both tiers also require that students have a minimum high school GPA of 3.6, a minimum UVU GPA of 3.5, and are Utah residents. The awards can be renewed for up to 8 semesters, so long as students maintain a minimum GPA and credits taken.

The UVU Concurrent Enrollment program offers high-quality college courses to high school students and is designed to provide them with accessible options to enhance their future. By offering both college credits and reduced tuition costs ($5 per credit), this program allows students to earn up to 30 credits a year. This grants students a head start in their college degrees.

The program offers face-to-face, livestream, and online courses in a variety of subjects. Students are able to take these classes from home, within their high school, or even on UVU campus. Many students go on to complete their generals and major-specific introductory courses by the time they graduate; some students even graduate high school with a General Education certificate or an Associates degree.

Concurrent Enrollment students also receive many of the enrollment benefits that standard UVU students have. They are given free UTA passes to use any of Utah’s public transport, access to all UVU amenities, access to UVU events and activities, and are given full access to UVU resources such as the Fulton Library and Microsoft and Adobe products.

To enroll in Concurrent Enrollment, students are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in academic courses, and 2.0 in CTE courses. Additionally, individual classes may require that students have previously taken certain classes in high school. Homeschool students without an accredited transcript may submit their ACT scores as an alternative; their scores must have a minimum score of 22 for academic courses, and 19 for CTE courses.

The Concurrent Enrollment program ensures that students can be supported with a dedicated staff of instructors, coordinators, and advisors. These staff members are able to help students register and navigate their programs. While students are enrolled, they consistently check in and help students navigate their classes. Additionally, they connect students and their parents with helpful resources to further their education.

The Concurrent Enrollment program has a particularly close partnership with the Utah County Academy of Sciences, also known as UCAS. UCAS is an early college high school, which means they integrate up to two years’ worth of college credits within their high school curriculum. They start their students in Concurrent Enrollment their freshman year and transition them into full-time UVU students by their senior year. In 2024, 83% of their students graduated with an Associate’s degree.

Over 18,000 students are currently enrolled across 64 different Utah high schools, making up roughly 40% of UVU’s total student population. Concurrent Enrollment is expanding rapidly, with a reported 8.10% growth in student enrollment from 2024 to 2025. By adding a scholarship for these students, UVU is further ensuring these high school students will get accessible and affordable education. Because adding financial support helps students feel more secure in pursuing education and opens new opportunities.

"When concurrent enrollment students arrive on campus as college freshmen, they have already proven themselves academically. They come in disciplined, prepared, and eager to advance their education,” said Senior Director of Concurrent Enrollment, Spencer Childs. “What we have not had, until now, is a scholarship that truly reflects that. This is the first scholarship at UVU built specifically to reward that effort, and we think it will make a real difference, not just for students who are already enrolled in concurrent enrollment courses, but for students who now have a reason to start."

Eligible students only need a high school transcript to apply for the scholarship. High school seniors must submit their transcripts by February 1st to be considered for Fall 2027.
