Each spring, Peace and Justice Studies hosts a conference on a timely and important topic. Last year’s conference, discussing the topic of nuclear weapons, drew more than 1,200 attendees. This year’s dialogue will discuss genocide prevention. Four of the world’s foremost genocide scholars will come to campus (the schedule can be viewed below; details and biographical information about the speakers included).
The Wolverine hockey team ended their season with a 4-6 loss to BYU in a neck-to-neck battle that went down to the wire at Seven Peaks Arena. Jeff Jiron, Slava Ivenenko, Weston Nash and Jeff Potempa all scored for the Wolverines, but it was not enough. UVU shot a total of 44 shots compared to BYU’s 37, but in the end, the Cougars had fresh legs and scored four unanswered goals in the last six minutes of the match.
Students from colleges around Utah are set to rally this Friday morning on Capitol Hill, regarding higher education funding. Imminent budget cuts are on the board for every state-funded college in Utah. These budget cuts will affect students immediately. This writer attended a meeting with the Higher Education Appropriation Committee (the officials in suits and ties at the State Capitol who decide how many millions of dollars will be cut from our budget) last week at the Capitol to better understand the situation.
