Manwill, Jones Named GWC Players of the Week

UVU claimed two GWC Volleyball Player of the Week selections after the Wolverines posted two conference wins last week, keeping them undefeated and tied for first place (NJIT) in the league.

Camie Manwill and Allyce Jones led their team to a 3-1 win over North Dakota, handing the Sioux their first conference loss of the season. The pair also lifted the Wolverines to a sweep of South Dakota, 3-0.

Manwill, a senior outside hitter from Paradise, Calif., recorded 29 kills in the two matches. Against North Dakota, she had a career-high four consecutive service aces, a season-high 24 points, 19 kills and a hitting percentage of .409. Also, Manwill posted 18 digs on the week, as well as four blocks.

On the defensive side, Jones recorded 39 digs in the two wins, including a season-high 26 versus North Dakota, for a 6.50 dig per set average. The senior libero from Pleasant Grove, Utah, also had six assists and two service aces in the two victories.

This is the second time that both Manwill and Jones have been honored. Manwill was named the offensive player of the week for the week of Aug. 31 – Sept. 6, while Jones was named the defensive player of the week for the week of Sept. 7-13.

Pair of Wolverines Finish in Top 25 at Cal Poly Tournament

A 5-over 76 resulted in a twenty-third place finish for Monica Baldwin at the Firestone Grill College Invitational. Five other golfers including teammate Monica Fox finished right alongside her to wrap up the invitational held at the Monarch Dunes Golf Club.

The Wolverines finished ninth overall after shooting a team-best 324 in the final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament.

Baldwin’s 76 was the lowest score of the tournament for a Wolverine golfer. Abbie Lei Archibald finished three shots behind her two teammates tying for thirty-second.

Host Cal Poly had the top two finishers in the tournament with Stephanie Yocum winning medalist honors by six shots over her teammate, Maddy Fletcher. Cal Poly also tied with Cal State Northridge in the race for the team title.

Up next for the Wolverines will be the Utah Collegiate Shootout featuring both the men’s and women’s teams from five of the six D-I golf programs in Utah on Oct. 17 in St. George.
