The Dark Knight returns

July 28, 2008 Fomer Staff Writer 0

Since the The Dark Knight‘s unique marketing campaign took off over a year ago, the buzz for the sequel to Batman Begins has taken off to completely new levels. You couldn’t see a movie in the theater without seeing a Dark Knight trailer before it. With the constant bombardment of trailers and posters and overall hype, you might think that audiences would’ve become tired of the relentless advertising — if so, you couldn’t be further from the truth.

July 28, 2008 Fomer Staff Writer 0

These days, video games can be, and are, incorporated in everything from entertainment to physical therapy to military training. And soon, if USU student Christopher Leitch has his way, they’ll also be synonymous with charity.

July 28, 2008 Fomer Staff Writer 0

Bo Earls, an avid knapper and founder of the UVKA (explained later), is one of the most well known men on campus, at least to sports fanatics. He is the hero for the week. Here is what he had to say

With former Pres. William Sederburg in his new position as the seventh Commissioner of Higher Education for the state of Utah, the search for an interim president commenced.

Immigration Rights

July 28, 2008 Fomer Staff Writer 0

Recently UtahCultures.com sponsored a musical talent contest and dance for immigrant rights entitled “Remember the Pioneers” in Provo. Now, Peter Jose Smith, president of Utah Cultures, publicly announced on his Web site that he will be running for Congress as a Christian Democratic Republican against Jason Chaffetz, who he claims is too harsh against immigrants, “wanting to deport everyone, even if they have been here for years and have children who are American Citizens.”

Get off your apathetic butt and vote

July 28, 2008 Fomer Staff Writer 0

Last fall, I was sitting in a political science class when the professor turned the topic to being politically active. He started asking questions and counting the answers.

Survival for the passenger

July 28, 2008 Fomer Staff Writer 0

A few days ago, as I crossed the street from Sinclair toward UVU, I encountered a woman whose appearance immediately revealed her agitation. Beside her stood an old but well-cared-for bicycle. When a UTA bus came to a stop, she quickly moved toward the door and asked the driver when the next bus to Spanish Fork would be coming around. After a brief search, the driver responded, “Well I don’t have the time schedule for the 802. However, it should be here in an hour or so.”

Actively pursuing a long-term, monogamous relationship

July 28, 2008 Fomer Staff Writer 0

Good news, ladies: I’m officially on the market. Let me be the first to tell you that an opportunity like this doesn’t come around every day. And I’m not going to let a little thing like humility get in the way of my telling you how awesome I am.

Utah Jazz wrap up Rocky Mountain Revue with win

July 28, 2008 Fomer Staff Writer 0

This past week the Utah Jazz began the Rocky Mountain Review a little rocky, losing its first two games to the San Antonio Spurs and the Atlanta Hawks. Kosta Koufos, the Jazz’s 23rd pick in the 2008 draft showed an unimpressive five points and four rebounds starting his debut with the Jazz on last Fridays game against the Spurs. The Jazz made an embarrassing 29% from the field, losing 57 to 82.

Jazz re-sign Williams

July 28, 2008 Fomer Staff Writer 0

As has become a trend in the NBA, superstars who are the cornerstones of their franchise are opting for less money to sign shorter deals. Following in the footsteps of LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Paul, point guard Deron Williams has settled on a three-year deal with an option for a fourth with the Utah Jazz.

Making Headlines

July 28, 2008 Fomer Staff Writer 0

Danny White resigned from the position of Utah Blaze head coach with a 21-30 record after his third season, a season that failed once again to net a single playoff win. His replacement will be former assistant coach Ron James, who served as defensive coordinator for the past two seasons. James has spent 11 years in the Arena Football League and was head coach of the Las Vegas Gladiators for two seasons.
