Ashley Robertson What is your major and emphasis? English major with emphasis in Literature What was your best UVU moment? My best moment at UVU was during a class lecture when my professor got so passionate about the subject that they threw themselves against the wall and accidentally cracked it.
Arthur Laffer, a prominent economist during the Regan administration, spoke to a group of about 200 students last Wednesday about the current economic climate. UVU’S PBL STUDENTS WIN AT STATE For the second year in a row, Utah Valley University’s Phi Beta Lambda won the traveling trophy for the most awards won with 47 and was named the Most Outstanding Chapter at the annual Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference held April 3-4 in Ogden.

The Library of Congress Junior Fellows internship program brings together a variety of talented and highly qualified college students from around the country. The 2009 intern class will include UVU’s own Carol Acevedo. She will be the first student from UVU to have an internship with the Library of Congress.
To the Editor: I, for one, was pretty disgusted with Orin Hatch’s visit to UVU. From the amount of petty groveling and sucking up the faculty did, to Hatch’s overall presentation. If you missed it, it was something like this. Old man takes stage, old man is given ties, books, laser pointers.
Eric Madsen has taken over the Utah Valley baseball program after serving the past five seasons as an assistant coach under Steve Gardner. Madsen has been a part of the program since the school’s first season of NCAA Division I competition in 2003 and is now the first head coach of Utah Valley University.

Isaiah Thomas to coach FIU Former Detroit Piston great Isaiah Thomas has accepted the head-coaching job at Florida International University. Thomas, who had recently coached the New York Knicks, said he would donate his first year’s salary to the FIU athletic program.
Kevin Kruger scored 23 points and Ronald Dupree had a double-double to lead the Utah Flash to a 94-81 victory over the Bakersfield Jam in the first round of the 2009 NBA Development League Playoffs Wednesday at the McKay Center. Sen. Orrin Hatch visited campus April 10 to discuss the passing of the Serve America Act. The bill amends the National and Community Service Act of 1990, expanding opportunities for service. The bipartisan bill was sponsored by Sen. Kennedy (D, MA) and co-sponsored by 18 others.
Letter to the Editor I think UVU professors need to do away with attendance policies. This is college, and we students are paying a large sum of money to be enrolled here. Why not let the students control whether or not attending classes should be mandatory? I do not desire to have the attendance policy dropped because of any inclination to miss classes, but because during the winter semesters I get sick at least once a month.
Wittman Named GWC Female Athlete of the Week UTPA’s J.J. Hernandez was named the Great West Conference Track and Field Male Athlete of the Week, while Utah Valley’s Jazmine Wittman and South Dakota’s Crystal Schiernbeck both shared honors on the women’s side for the week ending April 5, the league office announced Tuesday.
