Nov. 10 – MENTAL SUBJECT – UVU Police responded to 800 W University Parkway in response to an unscheduled protest. A 46-year-old female and a 66-year-old male were trespassing on UVU property. The protesters have a history of mental illness and believe UVU is part of a cult.
GMAIL ADDS VIDEO AND AUDIO CHAT – Google announced it will join Yahoo and Microsoft in the race to make Web communication more social by adding video and audio chat to its free e-mail service. Currently, Gmail is the third largest e-mail service, serving 113 million users worldwide.
Got art? It seems to me that there are many areas of campus that are very boring. Then other parts of campus, like the new library and the Computer Science Building, have all sorts of cool things to look at. It bothers me that most of the hallways are either quite bare or have lots of advertisements, so I propose we set up more areas around campus that would allow students and local artist to showcase their works.
Broadbent, Wilson garner weekly awards Utah Valley’s Kayli Broadbent and Allyce Wilson earned Great West Conference Volleyball Players of the Week for the week ending Nov. 9, the league office announced Tuesday. Broadbent collects her second weekly honor after guiding the Wolverines to a 3-0 victory over fellow Great West Conference member Houston Baptist this past week.
A’s add Holliday The low-budget Oakland A’s helped themselves recently as they acquired outfielder Matt Holliday in a trade with the Colorado Rockies. Holliday, a major contributor to the Rockies team from a season ago that went to the World Series, will add his big bat to the Oakland lineup.
INTERESTED IN ROCKET SCIENCE? – On Nov. 13, the UVU College of Science and Health will present a lecture on rocket propulsion from noon to 12:50 p.m. in LI 120. Michael Jacobs of ATK Launch Systems will be talking about the Ares I rocket program. Ares I is the fleet of rockets being developed by NASA to replace the Space Shuttle fleet.
Monday, Nov. 10 * Biotechnology Internships – The Biotechnology Club will be holding their opening social with guest speakers from the U of U, Sorensen Forensics, Phoenix Data Systems, Myriad Pharmaceuticals and BYU. Each speaker will talk about biotechnology in their companies and internship opportunities.
Oct. 28 – DUI – UVU Police were at the Sinclair Gas station at 1200 S 800 W when they observed a intoxicated female get into a vehicle and drive off. UVU police initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and arrested a 44-year-old female for DUI. The female was booked into the Utah County Jail.
Man vs. toilet Who of you on this campus hasn’t used a restroom at UVU and before you’re finished the toilet’s automatic system decides to abruptly flush, violently spraying toilet water all over your lower half? I’ve cowardly entered the campus restrooms in fear for years, but a few weeks ago revelation struck me.
By earning such honors as being named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII Second Team, UVU’s own Ryan Toolson has received some impressive accolades.
Women’s golf finishes fall with 17th-place finish The Utah Valley women’s golf team capped the 2008 fall season with a 17th-place finish in the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational at Cypress Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday. Kasey Larson (76-84–160) was the top finisher for UVU, tying for 46th after an 84 in Tuesday’s final round.
After just three games in the NBA season, there is a monster trade. The Detroit Pistons acquired Allen Iverson and sent Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess to the Denver Nuggets. Iverson is looking forward to his new home in Detroit. Billups is also excited because most of his off-season workouts are done in Denver.

The Utah Valley women’s soccer 2008 season, it’s most successful ever at the NCAA level, ended with a tough 1-0 loss at Longwood in the United Soccer Conference Championship game on Monday night. Despite the loss in the final, the 2008 Wolverines will go down as the winningest team in the school’s six-year NCAA history.
