OREM- The Wolverines had a strong start offensively but from then on it was all Indiana State in the second game of a double header on Saturday as UVU fell 11-8. The Wolverines were able to heat up at the end but was kept short of a victory.

Kaden Schmitt took the mound for the second game and the first two innings of the game went scoreless. The Sycamores opened up the scoring by an error on the shortstop Paul Estrada.

Estrada was able to make up for his error as he came to bat with a triple in the bottom of the third. The Wolverines were then able to take advantage of the small ball. Trevor Howell hit a double to score two runs as the Wolverines took the lead for the first time.

The Sycamores were able to figure out Schmitt in the top of the fourth, hitting a home run to go up by one. Jake Berry was able to save the deficit from increasing with an amazing diving catch in left field. Schmitt finished the inning.

It was from then on that the bats lit up for the Sycamores, scoring four more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Schmitt was then taken out of the game having given up eight runs with seven of those being earned. Those eight runs came on 11 hits and two walks.

The Wolverines had a spark in the eighth inning with a lead-off home run by Zac Willis. Jackson Overlund then came up right after him with a stand up double and continued the momentum. Overlund was able to steal third then was hit in by Nick Simmons with one out. Luke Jacketta came in clutch with a two-out double to right field bringing in two runs to make the deficit one. The rally was ended by a ground out by Howell.

The excitement was short for the Wolverines as the Sycamores countered with a rally of their own to increase the lead in the ninth. The Sycamores score three more runs. The rally ended with a strong throw from Callahan Moltzan in right field catching the runner at home to end the inning.

The Wolverines were then halted in the ninth. The Sycamores were able to close out the hot Wolverines at the end with a final score of 11-8.

The Wolverines will end their first home stand with a game on Sunday. The first pitch at 12 p.m. MST.
