International Cinema provides Intentional Fun

August 31, 2009 Rob Steffen 0

This semester, the Cinema Studies program is excited to be partnering up with the International Center to bring UVU students some of the best foreign films around. The series will begin on Sept. 10 with the classic Okamoto film “The Sword of Doom,” a tale about a sociopathic samurai and his descent into madness. Other essential films will be on tap for the semester, such as Ingmar Bergman’s “The Seventh Seal,” as well as more contemporary pieces, like Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire,” winner of this year’s Academy Award for Best Picture.

The CleanFlicks Treatment

August 31, 2009 Rob Steffen 0

Andrew and Josh’s film chronicles the rise and fall of the CleanFlicks empire. But it’s a real shame CleanFlicks is not around anymore, because we still need them. There are plenty of movies that could use the CleanFlicks technique to make them morally suitable for viewing.

It’s back. We’re back, I mean. The annual migration of late teens and twenty-somethings from parents’ basements into overpriced, college-accessible housing has reached its peak. The D.I. is crowded on Wednesdays again, and the bookstore staff are cashing their fat, fat paychecks, with a lack of shame rivaled only by Disney and Lucifer himself.
