Orem, Utah – October 29th, 2026

The yearly exhibit called the Clothesline Project was hosted at Utah Valley University from October 26th to 27th. The exhibit exists to raise awareness for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

The project started in Cape Cod, Massachusetts in 1990 and was then held in other places in the US, one of them being in UVU which started around 2011.

Inside the exhibit, organizers from the Center for Social Impact hang up t-shirts of various colors that have handwritten stories from survivors and people who supported the survivors. Each color represents an individual’s experience. Additionally, there are specific sounds (like gongs, bells, and whistles) being played in the background to portray the frequency of attacks, reports, and deaths.

“It raises awareness for students and also provides a way for students to really like to feel the gravity of these things,” Exhibit designer Berkley Nisson explained, “in a way that’s a little bit more deep than just reading the statistics.”

Motivated by positive change, Nisson shared that the Center for Social Impact strives to develop helpful and strategic leaders that not only would empower other people but also give them the safe space that they need. “We want people to be able to create hope and have hope,” Nisson said, “This project is very sad, and very touching. But I think it’s really important to raise awareness for these things and show people stories in a way that says there is hope.”
