Utah Valley University wrestling fell to nationally ranked Big 12 opponents in the #16 South Dakota State University Jackrabbits (8-2, 2-0) 12-29 last Friday and the #14 North Dakota State University Bison (8-2, 3-1) 12-31 Sunday.

The Jackrabbits started off hot, winning their first three matchups by sudden victory, technical fall, and fall picking up 14 points early. Demetrius Romero was the first Wolverine to pick up some points for UVU. Romero picked up 3 points in a 4-2 decision.

The Jackrabbits responded to the Wolverines’ match win by winning the next three matchups by 3-2 decision, fall, and 2-0 decision bringing the score to 26-3.

Kase Mauger defeated Tanner Jordan by fall, picking up six points for the Wolverines. Two matchups later Ty Smith picked up another three points for the Wolverines in a 7-6 decision.

Ultimately the late push by the Wolverines was not enough to fight off the Jackrabbits as UVU fell 29-12 to SDSU.

UVU got off to another slow start for the second time last weekend as the Bison won their first five matchups of the afternoon. One by major decision, fall, and technical fall, and two by decision picking up 24 points for the Bison.

The next three matchups were all UVU as Jack Forbes and Chase Trussell picked wins by decision (Forbes 8-3, Trussell 2-2 tiebreaker riding time). Mauger picked up his second win by fall of the weekend with a pin on Ryan Henningson.

UVU had cut the lead to 24-12 but the Bison won the final two matches of the duel picking up a 31-12 win, extending the Wolverines duel losing streak to seven.

The Wolverines will return home and host Snow College and the United States Air Force Academy this Friday. The duel against Snow College will start at 4:15 P.M. MT and the Air Force duel will start at 6 P.M. MT. Both duels will take place in the Lockhart Arena.
