The Wolverine volleyball team evened their season record at 2-2 with a win over the Idaho State Bengals on Tuesday night. Coming into the game, the Bengals were 2-2 with the hopes of improving to a winning record. However, the Wolverines had other plans as they defeated the Bengals 3-1.

The first set belonged to the Wolverines 25-23 with 14 kills.

After winning the second set but losing the third, the Wolverines needed to rally in the fourth set to take the match. They did just that and won the match . With 14 kills and only 7 errors, the Wolverines produced a solid set to clinch the match and move to 2-2 on the year.

Kazna Tarawhiti led the way for the Wolverines with 19 kills followed by Kristen Allred who had 16. Allred also had one ace and 10 blocks to contribute to the Wolverines’ victory.

The Wolverines showed great persistence and grit throughout the match. Trailing for of the sets, they were able to fight back and go on key runs to take the lead and ultimately win the set. The fourth set proved crucial for the Wolverines’ composure.. Down 15-12 and again 22-20, the Wolverines kept fighting to pull ahead.

Some more key preconference play wins can prove to be crucial for the Wolverines. Heading into conference play with a .500 record or even a winning record could make the difference on if the Wolverines are able to have a solid year on the court.

The Wolverines now have a month of in-state matchups. They will take on Utah State on Sept. 4 in Orem. After that, they will take on Weber State on Sept. 11 and then travel to Salt Lake to take on University of Utah on Sept. 14. Following that, the Wolverines will open up WAC play against Chicago State on Sept. 20.
