The Utah Valley University Men’s Soccer team fell to No. 6 Portland on Monday night 6-0, suffering its third straight loss and sliding to 1-3 on the season.

The Pilots got on a hot start early against the Wolverines, scoring a 10th minute goal, putting the Pilots in position to establish an early dominance.

In the 34th minute, the Pilots scored another goal after sophomore keeper Landon Carter blocked a shot attempt, but Portland would succeed on the ensuing corner kick.

Four minutes later, Portland was awarded a free kick and would feed a ball into the box in position for a header to secure their third goal.

The Wolverines allowed the Pilots to have nine shots with six of them on goal, only attempting two of their own without one on target.

The Wolverines would head into the second half trailing 3-0 with work to do if they wanted to upset the No. 6 Pilots.

Portland would nearly get another one as Carter and an attacking Pilot collided in the box and left an open goal. However, Portland could not get a good look as they remained at 3-0.

It was just moments later that Portland would get their fourth goal off another free kick header into the goal.

This goal would be back-to-back games with the Wolverines allowing four or more goals.

But the Pilots would dig the blade deeper.

Portland would score in the 63rd minute off a penalty kick. Then would score again in the 80th minute cementing their 6-0 victory over the Wolverines.

Utah Valley attempted only four total shots in the match with one on target to Portland’s 16 shots with 12 on goal.

Carter finished with four saves while playing the entire 90 minutes.

Utah Valley will continue their road stretch as they head to UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Sept. 9 in California. They will then go on to face Cal Poly on Tuesday Sept. 12 before returning home on Sept. 16 to take on Pacific.

All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
