Schott earns Great West Conference Defensive Player of the Week

Senior goalkeeper is 3-0 on the year

Sept. 9, 2008 NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Utah Valley senior goalkeeper Mallory Schott has been named the Great West Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Schott has helped the Wolverines (3-0) get off to the best start in school history after a 2-1 overtime win over Texas State last Saturday. The Vancouver, Washington native finished the week with eight saves while playing every minute in goal for UVU during the week.

The Wolverines scored two exciting overtime wins last week, defeating Northern Colorado 3-2 before coming from behind to force extra time against Texas State when Adrienne Schneider scored the game-winner.

Houston Baptist’s Ana Viscariello earned Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight time.

Freshman Josh McCabe UVU’s first-ever GWC Player of the Week

McCabe finished fourth overall at the Idaho State Invitational on Aug. 30, 2008.

Utah Valley cross country runner freshman Joshua McCabe was named the first-ever Great West Conference Runner of the Week on Sept. 3.

McCabe, a true freshman from Springville, Utah (Timpview H.S.), led the way for the Wolverines at the Idaho State Invitational finishing fourth overall with a time of 19:32.2 in the 6K race held in Pocatello, Idaho on Aug. 30. McCabe helped lead UVU Men’s Cross Country to a second place finish overall.

With the award, McCabe became the first ever recipient of a Great West Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week Award.
