UVU baseball’s Krahenbuhl named Great West Pitcher of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. –Utah Valley’s Blake Krahenbuhl was honored as the Great West Conference Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 1 after his eight-inning, one-hit performance in a 5-0 shutout of Southern Utah Feb. 24-25.

Krahenbuhl’s combined shutout over the Summit League T-Birds was the second straight Krahenbuhl-started game to end in a Wolverines shutout. The sophomore from South Jordan, Utah was part of the first one-hitter in UVU’s NCAA D-I history.

He is now 2-0 and has thrown 13 scoreless innings to begin the 2011 season. Krahenbuhl allowed only a one-out single in the fifth then retired the final 11 batters he faced.

Men’s basketball’s Aird captures Player of the Week for second straight week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. –For the second consecutive week, men’s basketball Freshman Ben Aird has been named Great West Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Feb. 28.

Aird posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Houston Baptist Feb. 26, helping the Wolverines clinch at least a share of the GWC title.

“Ben had an outstanding game against HBU. It’s exciting to see his consistency developing,” Coach Dick Hunsaker said.

Aird hit 9-of-12 (75 percent) from the field in the 67-62 win over the Huskies to complete a 6-0 Great West home regular season for UVU.
