Reading Time: 3 minutes With the beginning of summer and the end of this school year’s printings of the UVU Review, come opening nights across Utah. The summer musicals that local theaters pride themselves by accompany a few eclectic locally-written and produced scripts to be performed at the smaller theaters across Utah and Salt Lake Counties.

Reading Time: < 1 minute Stephen Fullmer, UVU professor and teacher of this semester’s Themes in Literature class, has collaborated with his students in getting bands Adjacent to Nothing and Forsaken Reminiscence to perform on campus April 27. The class, which focused this semester on the subculture and musical influence of heavy metal, has been trying all semester to get a prominent heavy metal band or musician to guest lecture in the class.

Reading Time: < 1 minute A war is continuing today led by Joseph Kony, a war leader of the Lord Resistance Army that has continued for 23 years, involving the kidnapping of around 3,000 children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old in Sudan, Uganda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Central African Republic.

Reading Time: 2 minutes The Bachelor of Fine Arts shows are the culmination of senior projects for most student artists. The exhibits will be on display in the UVU Library through April. On the 3rd floor we have Susan Purdy’s Rise display paired with Tammy Ballard’s Visual Voice, exhibiting sculptures and paintings synchronized in similar colors through May 2.

While that’s all fine and dandy if that’s your thing, some of us would prefer to spend our time sleeping in, going to the movies and reading comic books.

Reading Time: < 1 minute The Utah Symphony will present an evening of Broadway tunes featuring songs from Wicked Chicago, Jersey Boys, Phantom of the Opera, and Beauty and the Beast; as well as a variety of other musical favorites. The symphony and guest vocalists will be lead by Maestro Jerry Striechen, future Principal Pops Conductor of the symphony.

Reading Time: 2 minutes Had a mechanic offer to vamp up your timing belt speed lately? Is the guy at the counter at the lube shop a real mechanic? Wondering how necessary a fuel injector cleaning is? Under most circumstances, it isn’t. And timing belt speed? It doesn’t exist, any more than the blinker fluid in the old “gotcha” joke.

Reading Time: < 1 minute Camping is a fun outdoor activity that many people enjoy. The students at UVU are very lucky to be around so many easily accessible campgrounds. Here is a list of the closest get-away-from-the-city campsites. Utah Lake State Park, located at the end of Provo Center Street, has clean bathrooms, hot showers, water, and camping at the edge of Utah Lake.

Reading Time: 2 minutes Russell Lee, founder and lead man for the band This Dying Need, wants to mix things up a little bit in the music scene. “Everyone is on a Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz kick. Still. It’s getting out of control,” Lee says, clearly exasperated. This Dying Need manages to set itself apart from the monotonous music scene in various ways.
