Statistically Speaking: A Numerical Recap of UVU Sports
Reading Time: 2 minutes Spring sports have been shut down on campus, as well as across the nation, because of COVID-19. But, it’s still worthwhile to reflect upon what defined the seasons of some winter and spring sports. In this week’s column, we will be looking at a record-breaking statistic for men’s basketball, the number of blowout wins by the softball team, and an astronomical earned run average allowed by the baseball team.
Wolverines cap off regular season with a loss on Senior Night
Reading Time: 2 minutes Four seniors took the court at the UCCU Center one last time on Thursday, March 5, as the Wolverines hosted the Kansas City ‘Roos. T.J. Washington, Emmanuel Olojakpoke, Brandon Morley and Bradley Kitchen were all honored in a pre-game ceremony for Senior Night. The Wolverines would end up losing to the Roos 61-51, finishing with a regular season record of 11-19.
Wolverines squander lead late, fall to CBU on the road
Reading Time: 2 minutes On the heels of back-to-back home wins, the Utah Valley Wolverines headed west for their final road game of the season. The Wolverines faced the California Baptist Lancers on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the CBU Events Center in Riverside, California. Prior to the game, the Lancers had an overall record of 19-8 and sat in second place in the WAC standings.
Wolverines win big, Olojakpoke sets single-season block record
Reading Time: 2 minutes In a rematch of a one-point overtime defeat for the Wolverines last month on Jan. 23, the Utah Valley men’s basketball team hosted the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners at the UCCU Center. UVU entered the game on Thursday, Feb. 20 with a 9-17 record and picked up their 10th win after beating CSUB 72-58.
UVU hangs on late, wins first game at GCU since 2014
Reading Time: 2 minutes The victory for UVU in Phoenix was a rather big one, having lost their previous five games at GCU. UVU’s last win at GCU Arena prior to Saturday night came on Feb. 6, 2014, when they won 68-79. However, the ‘Lopes still hold a now 10-6 all-time series record over UVU.
Late-game heroics lift Wolverines over UTRGV, 72-70
Reading Time: 2 minutes Following a home loss to New Mexico State Thursday, Jan. 16, the Utah Valley men’s basketball team played host to the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros on Saturday, Jan. 18. The Wolverines entered play hoping to end their three-game losing streak and pick up a win against the 6-11 Vaqueros.
Late comeback falls short, UVU loses 68-63 at Kansas city
Reading Time: 2 minutes Following a big win at Chicago State in their WAC opener, the Utah Valley men’s basketball team traveled to Kansas City to take on the Kansas City ‘Roos on Saturday, Jan. 4. UMKC came into the game undefeated in the Swinney Center, having won all five games played in their home arena. The Wolverines were unable to overcome a slow start to the night and fell to the ‘Roos, 68-63.
Wolverines lose nail-biter at SUU, extend losing streak to four
Reading Time: 2 minutes Following their first home game since Nov. 21, the Utah Valley men’s basketball team hit the road again to face Southern Utah on Saturday, Dec. 7, in Cedar City, Utah. UVU entered the game having played five of the last seven games on the road and the fatigue showed as they fell to the Thunderbirds 73-72.
