Valley Project holding banquet for Youth for Orphans

The Valley Project, a Christian student fellowship club at UVU, is hosting a fundraiser banquet for Youth for Orphans this month.

Youth for Orphans is a nonprofit organization that offers students a chance to help orphans in South America. On the Youth for Orphans MySpace page it states, “It’s about ministry. It’s about living our missions on a daily basis.” The stated purpose of this group is to help students live for Christ by providing hands-on opportunities for service.

Youth for Orphans are traveling the country this summer to raise money, according to Ashley Forsyth, president of The Valley Project. The club is joining Youth for Orphans in raising money by holding a banquet that is open to everyone.

The charity banquet is on July 17 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm in the Grand Ballroom at UVU. The tickets are $20 and pay for a catered meal and a presentation about the organization and what they do with the donated money. There will also be door prizes donated by local businesses.

“It’s a good way to sit back and relax and enjoy yourself while contributing to a good cause,” said Cassie Austin, a club member. “People always talk about giving back to your community or your country. Because this banquet is international, it’s a way to give back to your world. This is our way to give back to these kids and their future.”

The tickets for the banquet can be purchased at UVU’s Campus Connection or by contacting a club member.

The banquet is only one of the activities the Valley Project is involved with. The club also participates in service projects, worships every Sunday, and holds monthly social activities such as bowling or camping. They also host Bible studies throughout the year on campus.
