Strange Mail: We Received a Letter Explaining the End of the World
On Oct. 7, the UVU Review staff huddled around a mysterious envelope delivered to the office. The outside was decorated with odd, colorful markings with striking penmanship. The return address stated that was from Matthew Thorton of 120° West, Western United States Tahoe.
Upon opening the letter, we discovered 6 photocopied letters and notes. Some pages have detailed drawings and colors by highlighters. Most of the text seems to be related to nuclear energy. It advocates an easy method to “convert bombs into energy pellets”.
Matthew Franke, the Executive Web Producer, found a Reddit community dedicated to documenting Thorton’s mail delivery. This community is made up of museums, bars, and distillers that receive this mail and post their locations. Thorton’s mail has been sent all over Utah, Washington and California.
The consensus around Thorton is that he has eccentric ideas that are interesting to entertain. The UVU Review were certainly pulled in by the uniqueness of the mail.
