Philosophy student accepted to prestigious summer seminar

Philosophy major Jorgen Hansen has become the first UVU student to be accepted to the prestigious Summer Seminar in Philosophy at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The University of Colorado’s Department of Philosophy is one of the largest philosophy programs in the nation offering undergraduate as well as MA and PhD degrees in a wide range of topics.

April 2009 April 9th- Public Intoxication – A 28 year old male was arrested for Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct after he approached a man and his son in the Student Center and became very belligerent. The male was transported back to the UVU Police Department and issued a citation prior to being released to his father.

UVU anthrax free

UVU was on alert last Thursday after an extended evacuation left the Woodbury Business Building empty from 10:45 a.m. into the evening. A white powdery substance was the culprit, found on a tabletop in the building. Tests confirmed that the powder was not anthrax, ricin or any other biological virus.

The position of Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) was filled May 1, 2009 by Dr. David Yells. After completing a national search and campus interviews with five qualified candidates, Dr. Yells was selected for this prestigious position based largely on his relevant experience in administrative leadership.

Imposters posing as Utah Valley University music students have been reportedly going door to door seeking donations, claiming that their UVU music group is raising money to perform with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. “These people are in no way associated with Utah Valley University.

Fellow in Ethics Recently Announced

Dr. Ruhul H. Kuddus was recently announced the 2009 through 2010 University Faculty Fellow in Ethics by the Ethics Across the Curriculum Faculty Advisory Committee. Following David Knowlton, associate professor of Anthropology, and Laura Hamblin, professor of English and literature who were each previously granted the fellowship, Kuddus is the third UVU professor to receive this distinguished recognition.
