The term “animal rights” has definitely secured its share of stigmas over the years: activists are considered radical and irrational, veganism and vegetarianism impracticable, protests and demonstrations mere spectacles.

Are Student Elections Fair Or A Farce?

Mr. UVU 2009 crowned

Reading Time: < 1 minute Spencer Dahl was named the winner of the Pirate themed Mr. UVU pageant last week. Dahl fought off eleven other contestants for the title, showing off their talents, swimsuits and evening-wear. Dahl, 24, is an undeclared major at UVU. His hobbies include football, baseball, snowboarding, cheer/stunting, reading and learning.

Sigma Alpha Lambda holds Pass It On event

On the positive side, UVU received $2.8 million for planning money for the Science building addition (hurray!) and some one-time federal stimulus targeted funding.

Giving of the Green campaign results

Reading Time: < 1 minute The Student Alumni Board (SAB) initiated the “Giving of the Green” campaign in response to state budgetary cuts, which previously provided tuition scholarship aid to UVU students. The campaign raised approximately $1,400. DigiCert, a local website security company in Lindon, offered to match the student donations.

Preparing for earthquakes

Reading Time: 2 minutes Citing the anniversaries of powerful Utah earthquakes in Ogden (May 1914) and Kosomo (March 1934), Govorner John Huntsman has declared April 2009 to be “Earthquake Preparedness Month.” Utah’s rich history of earthquakes from St. George to the Idaho border is reason enough to be prepared, and Huntsman said the prospect of a major earthquake keeps him up at night.
