Reading Time: < 1 minute To the Editor, As a believing, practicing-to-the best-of-my-ability Latter-Day Saint, I was very disturbed by a recent Opinions piece, “More blessed than thou”. Its author, Russ Adler, speaks as though his ideas are representative of the doctrine and attitudes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Reading Time: 3 minutes To the Editor: I, for one, was pretty disgusted with Orin Hatch’s visit to UVU. From the amount of petty groveling and sucking up the faculty did, to Hatch’s overall presentation. If you missed it, it was something like this. Old man takes stage, old man is given ties, books, laser pointers.

Reading Time: 3 minutes Letter to the Editor I think UVU professors need to do away with attendance policies. This is college, and we students are paying a large sum of money to be enrolled here. Why not let the students control whether or not attending classes should be mandatory? I do not desire to have the attendance policy dropped because of any inclination to miss classes, but because during the winter semesters I get sick at least once a month.

Reading Time: 3 minutes Rationale for the destigmatization of Animal Rights Letter to the Editor: As a member of the Animal Allies Club on campus, I hope to educate and encourage students on various animal rights issues. The term “animal rights” has definitely secured its share of stigmas over the years: activists are considered radical and irrational, veganism and vegetarianism impracticable, protests and demonstrations mere spectacles.

Reading Time: < 1 minute To the Editor: I am disappointed to learn that the Utah State Board of Regents has selected BYU poli-sci associate professor Matthew Holland – son of the current Mormon apostle, who was the president of BYU. When does the separation of church and state cease to exist and nepotism and cronyism begin to flourish which might render the Utah Valley experience for non-Mormon students displeasing to the point of feeling unwelcome? Dr.

Reading Time: 4 minutes I am offended by something that matters . . . Johnny Poole. To the Editor: In a recent article in the UVU Review, Johnny Poole wrote a ridiculous editorial about Utah drivers and Mormon art. As I read through the article, I had a bad taste in my mouth for Poole’s sense of humor and negativity for Utah and the people who live here.

Reading Time: < 1 minute To the Editor: David Newlin’s March 2 editorial regarding a funding request by the Wee Care Center to student government contains information that I wish to clarify in order to avoid any misunderstanding. In Mr. Newlin’s opening statement, he indicated that there was a “problem with the grant” that funds Wee Care.

Reading Time: < 1 minute To the Editor: Last year when I needed a place to study, there were not a lot of options where there was a quiet atmosphere and desks. We did not have an “official library.” This year is so much better with our brand-new library. There is finally a place to go to study and not be distracted.
