Using food to find love

November 17, 2008

Reading Time: < 1 minute If socially active UVU students are any representation of general opinion, brunettes are officially more attractive than blondes. At the dating auction held at Centre Stage on Nov. 5, four boys and four girls were auctioned off. Dates with brunette women sold for an average of three times more than blondes.

Quantum of Solace: New Bond is bigger and badder than ever

November 17, 2008

Reading Time: 2 minutes Just like most people my age, I watched lots of James Bond flicks with my parents. While I always considered them fun movies, I never thought anything more of them – that was, until the franchise was rebooted in 2006 with Casino Royale. Seeing the beginnings of Bond and following him through his first double-o-seven mission brought a new Bond for a new generation.

A gathering of nations

November 17, 2008

Reading Time: 3 minutes The lights are dim, vibrant colors all around, while drumbeats fill the air. The hum of chatter and laughter can be heard throughout the room. “Things like this, having powwows, helps people to go back to their roots, to want to discover where they came from,” Billie Atsitty, vice president of the Native Sun Club, said.

In space, no one can hear you scream

November 17, 2008

Reading Time: 2 minutes The survival/horror genre of gaming has certainly seen better days. Of course, for the sake of clarity, when I say “better” I mean “more nightmarishly horrific.” The golden days revolve around the first few Resident Evil’s, Silent Hill’s and Fatal Flames before the respective series petered off into light gun centric shooters and lackluster, dumbed down sequels that cater to the crowd a little too thick to enjoy 7even or Silence of the Lambs, you know, those people that keep buying tickets to the latest version of Saw.

Shakespeare, but harder to understand

November 10, 2008

Reading Time: 2 minutes Despite the fact that a Shakespearean plot can be hard enough to understand even with a script, Ballet West began their 2008-09 season with Michael Smuin’s “The Tempest” on Nov. 7 at the Capitol Theatre. Student rush tickets are available to UVU students one hour prior to curtain.

King of the Hill canceled

November 10, 2008

Reading Time: < 1 minute Fox Television has announced that King of the Hill, now in its thirteenth season, will air its final episodes next year. The network says that the two-time Emmy award-winning program’s demise has been a long time coming. “It’s probably time (for Fox to make a decision),” Gary Newman, co-chairman of 20th Century Fox TV, said in an interview with TVWEEK earlier this month.

Role Models

November 10, 2008

Reading Time: 2 minutes The majority of this fall’s R-rated comedies have drawn their laughs from over-the-top disgusting gags. While those things are funny in the moment, they are not memorable. On the other end of the spectrum, you’ll find Role Models. While the trailers and TV spots for Role Models make it look like it’s just as much Seann William Scott’s movie as it is Paul Rudd’s, it’s really not.

Having freedom but still not free, part 2

November 10, 2008

Reading Time: 2 minutes This is the second and last installation of the series on the seventh anniversary of the Afghan War. To see the first half of Najib’s story, go to www.uvureview.com When I went outside it was almost bright as day, though it was night. People were saying, “Look to the south, look to the south, that’s where the bombs hit!” I looked and saw a bright fire coming out of the ground.
