Semester at sea

Dr. Daniel Horns, chair of the Earth Science department, recently returned from a nine-week summer semester abroad teaching geology for the University of Virginia’s Semester at Sea program. Complete with wireless internet, an 8000-volume library, a faculty lounge and even a merchandise store, the MV Explorer is a passenger ship that circumnavigates the globe twice a year for fall and spring semesters and explores a world region each summer.

Alternative Eating

Being an alternative eater on campus is difficult, near impossible. With a selection of meat or dairy-based, high-fructose corn syrup infused, gluten-laden “food,” UVU is not really friendly to those unorthodox among us. Here is a description of the most common alternative diets found on campus.

More health food on campus?

Dining Services, Student Health Services-Wellness Programs and Human Resources are sponsoring a healthy eating campaign beginning fall semester. As their first step toward healthy eating, nutritional information has been posted at all eating establishments around campus, including the main upstairs and downstairs cafeteria, all scattered food kiosks and Scoops.

Full New Century funding restored

The Utah Board of Regents was pleased to announce that the New Century Scholarship Program (NSCP) will be fully funded. The recently sent letter contained information about the percentage of tuition to be paid for the 2009-2010 academic year.

International Student Council fights for an international voice

Over twenty countries from around the globe were represented on Thursday, August 20 in students wandering the hallways looking for guidance. The majority of these students had only been in the United States for a week and none had been on campus before. “We get up to 120 international students per semester,” said Najib Niazi, vice president of the International Student Council (ISC).

The recently sent letter contained information about the percentage of tuition to be paid for the 2009-2010 academic year. New Century was created to pay for 75 percent of tuition over two years for students who earned an associate’s degree before graduating from high school.
