UVUSA VP accused of sexism

Outrage recently erupted over tweets from a member of the Executive Council of UVUSA, which many found sexist and offensive. Coalition against discrimination meets with President Holland

  Members of the coalition worked well into the early morning preparing an official statement to give to President Holland.   UVU has worked hard at putting forth an image of inclusiveness and acceptance of all students. However, some students believe there is still more to be done. Anonymous email denounces candidate for sexual orientation

While political races can be ruthless, the current race for one UVUSA position just turned personal. On Thursday, March 1 various club presidents received an email from an anonymous email account denouncing candidate Tom Hawkins because of his sexual orientation. Hawkins, who is openly gay, is running for Vice President of Clubs and Organizations.   The email, which was sent from “[email protected],” claimed that because of Hawkin’s sexuality, “his judgment is impaired and biased.” The email continued by stating “If we are to allow a gay student into student government, next they will be allowing students to advocate for...

Screaming Green Pep Band brings school spirit to sports games

Called the Screaming Green Pep Band, the group of musicians can be found at the home basketball games helping to cheer on the mighty Wolverines.   As one of the teams calls a time-out, the UCCU center erupts with the sound of trombones, trumpets, french horns, saxophones, flutes and  sousaphones, all kept in time by one drum set. Contemporary music from Lady Gaga or Green Day, as well as some classics like the song “Louie, Louie” sweeps over the fans, causing some to get up and dance.
