The public is invited to participate in the second annual Run for your VIDA haunted 5K and one mile run/walk. VIDA (Volunteers Involved in Development Abroad) is a student-run organization whose main focus is to help those in need.
The group helps many different kinds of humanitarian organizations in developing countries to get the money or laborers needed for all their efforts.
Some past efforts have included providing medical assistance to Juliaca in the Peruvian Andes, building a hospital annex in Narganá, teaching preventative healthcare to the people of Puebla, Mexico, and much more.
VIDA has been traveling to Obregón, Mexico every Thanksgiving Break for a couple of years to help build houses for the people there. Marcia Reidhead has gone twice and says, “It’s really cool because the community gets to choose who gets the house. It’s such a rewarding experience because you get to meet the people getting the house and get to know their story and then do the labor to help them.” The proceeds from this 5K will go to help raise money for the housing project in Mexico.
The event includes both a 5K and a one mile walk, so everyone can participate. It is only $10 if you dress up in Halloween attire, and $15 if you do not. The race is at Kiwanis Park in Provo, which is located at 820 N. 1100 E. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the race will begin at 9 a.m.
