Kelsey Jordan is among other students from UVU who are spending their spring semester in Washington D.C. and New York. This group of eight students is the largest group of interns to spend their spring semester in D.C. in UVU’s history.

UVU senior Mallory Oliverson is interning at The Heritage Foundation.

“I admire the principles of conservatism that the Heritage Foundation stands for. I have always had the desire to intern in Washington D.C. and to learn in an area full of so much history and importance to our nation,” Oliverson said.

The remaining interns are spending their internships aiding congressional offices. Kelsey Jordan is particularly excited over the opportunities that will be presented throughout her service to Utah Congresswoman Mia Love. Being a political science major with an emphasis in American Government, Jordan feels this opportunity will give her the chance to apply what she has learned so far in her major.

“This internship provides more than just experience, but it provides you with lasting relationships and connections with people that you would never expect to have,” Jordan said.

Spending their spring semester aiding and connecting with influential political figures is one of the main experiences a majority of the students are excited for. Kaitlyn Mace, a senior in the communications department who is interning in Senator Lee’s office, is anticipating to gain a better understanding of politics and how public relations is used in politics, as well as stronger writing skills.

“This internship will open a lot of doors for me by showing me what other fields I can go into and will hopefully help me make connections with a lot of Utah companies,” Mace said.
