There are currently just under 200 clubs on campus, waiting for students to join and get involved. This week, the Courtyard will be full of action and fun as clubs try to win the interests of students.
“Club Rush is a general event for all students, they come and almost 100 percent of our clubs participate in it,” said Elizabeth Miller, vice president of UVU Clubs. “They set up tables, they recruit, that’s when they talk about what they do, how to join, and to show all their excitement for what their club does.”
“I think its a great opportunity for the clubs to be known around campus,” said Casey Stokes, a public relations student. “It can be overwhelming to have so many booths in one area. It definitely needs better advertising, but overall I think it has some good thoughts behind it.”
When asked what reasons there are that students should want to join a club, Miller responded that students should network through academic clubs to help get involved in their field, to meet friends and have activities to do, and to build their resumes by stating their involvement on campus.
“I love being involved on campus, just knowing what’s going on and knowing how to connect to campus better,” said Miller. “When I first got involved with the Clubs Office, it was the best thing that’s ever happened.”
Club Rush takes place every day this week from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Courtyard. Some of the clubs that will be there are: Wolverine Swords Alliance Fencing Club, Rodeo Club, Women’s Rugby, Family Studies Club, Radio Club, Latinos in Action, Student American Dental Hygiene Club, among others.
