Ballroom Dance Festival on campus

Utah Valley University’s Department of Dance in the School of the Arts presented its annual Winter Ballroom Dance Festival Feb. 19-21 at the Orem Campus. The competition included dance teams from across the region.

All levels and styles were presented with teams coming from elementary schools, high schools, colleges and universities across the state and region.

Skiing and Snowboarding for credit

The snowy slopes of the Sundance Resort are partnering with UVU to offer snowboarding, skiing and cross-country skiing classes for college credit.

First-class instructors from Sundance work with the students to train and improve their skills. Classes are held weekly from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. during which students receive instructions followed by lab time on the Sundance slopes or Nordic trail.

Students who participate in the program receive a discounted weekday ski pass that covers summer activities at Sundance as well. Discounts on season rentals are also offered.

This year marks the first time UVU and Sundance are offering cross-country skiing, which broadens the number of winter activities in which students can participate.

This opportunity was made possible through Joy Brown from the Office of Extended Studies with Greg Newton from Sundance and Sam Palmatier from the Nordic Center.

For more information, contact Joy Brown at (801) 863-8432 or Happiness Peterson at (801) 623-3334.

Parking Services reminders

The Parking Services and Grounds Department would like to remind everyone of the following policies regarding overnight parking on campus:

Overnight parking is prohibited anywhere on campus. If for some reason, you are forced to leave your vehicle, you should notify University Police immediately as to why the vehicle is being left on campus. Parking Services will not be held liable for any damages that may occur to a vehicle left on campus overnight.

The college reserves the right to tow any vehicle. A vehicle may be towed for any of the following reasons: incident of driver arrest, vehicle creates a traffic hazard or unsafe condition, vehicles left overnight that obstruct snow removal, unauthorized vehicle parked in disabled parking, vehicle parked by red curb, in a fire lane, or any non-designated area which would obstruct traffic or campus maintenance, six or more unpaid citations. Also, the vehicle may be towed in instances where immobilizing equipment does not fit the vehicle or if installation of the immobilizing equipment may cause damage.

Red Cross 5K

The Mountain Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross presents its annual Run For Red 5K and One Mile Walk fundraiser Mar. 7. The event will be held at Independence High School in Provo and will begin at 10 a.m. Registration for will be available at www.runforred.org.

Admission prices are $20 for adults, $15 for students with a valid ID, and $12 a person for a group of 12 or more. Admission includes a free t-shirt and lunch.

The Run For Red 5K and One Mile event appeals to runners and walkers of any ability. Participants can choose between running the 5K and walking the One Mile. This event is for focused athletes and social exercisers alike.

All the money raised through the 5K event is put back into the Utah Valley community for residents who may become victims of disasters. Garr Judd, executive director of the Mountain Valley Chapter, hopes that the 5K event will inspire Utah residents to “partner with their local Red Cross in providing hope, relief, and life’s necessities to those in need.”
