Utah Valley President Matthew S. Holland took to Twitter on Nov 18 for a live Q & A with students using the hashtag #AskPresidentHolland.

He introduced students to the “Scooby Doo of UVU,” said that cats are evil and told students to “never, never give up” in the pursuit of their education.

Thank you everyone for joining me for my first Twitter Q&A. I’ve had a blast answering your questions. Just know how proud I am of you all.

— Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

As could be expected, questions ranged from personal preferences to improvements on the school.

.@paigegardiner A combination of highly substantive assignments with lots of feedback, and demanding examination of material learned. @uvu

— Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

@mayyso @prezholland Also, what are things professors can do to improve? I speak of the Letter to the Editor in this week’s @uvureview

— Mike Jones (@MikeJonesSez) November 18, 2014

@MikeJonesSez @uvureview …on student evaluations. I can assure you these are read and make a difference in hiring and promotion. — Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

.@shrowner_ I see continuing growth. We estimate 41,000 students by 2020. I also see national prominence for students, programs and faculty. — Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

.@uvuama I think almost anything that gets students together in a social way and with a productive purpose enhances a lasting education. — Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

.@laceyfarley18 Never, never, never give up. Finish your degree! There is always a way. Make sure you get involved and enjoy the journey. — Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

And when getting involved, use the hashtag – #StopBeingBoring

.@mayyso I encourage students to put academic priorities first. You’ll never again have a chance to learn like this. Work as hard as you can — Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

.@Jensenastle One of favs is in SLC, called The Other Place (American Diner Meets Greek Restaurant) Don’t miss “mezedakia for two.” @uvu — Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

.@pokeMSTR Electrifying. Historic. Proud of our #UVUMSoc, making it to the WAC quarterfinals w/ winning record. @WolverineGreen @gregmaas11 — Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

Holland had the chance to show students that he is a real person, with a personality and everything.

.@Skeeter0390 If by that you mean we’re #TrueGreen then yes. If you mean something else… @paigeybholland #MyLove pic.twitter.com/Ks9Ea3LhbY — Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

.@ElizabethAnne_H Climbing to the top of Mt. Timpanogos with a bunch of sensational students and planting the @UVU flag at the summit. — Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

.@olivesrock3 What do you mean? Those are my pajamas. — Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

.@moyeslikesboys Almost anywhere if I am interacting with engaged students. And I don’t mean “engaged” in that special UT County way. @UVU — Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

Oh, and he introduced students to the UVU pet:

.@ejohnson5678 @shrowner_ To answer both, I’m a dog guy all the way. Cats are evil. My dog is named Hank Holland. He’s the Scooby Doo of UVU — Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

@prezholland @ejohnson5678 @shrowner_ proof: my university president is cooler than yours. ???????????? — GG (@girlygeek138) November 19, 2014

.@MikeJonesSez I’ve absolutely loved it. But unfortunately the time has come to sign off. — Matthew Holland (@prezholland) November 18, 2014

The chat lasted for an hour and a couple of questions went unanswered.
