Wolverine women dominate Chicago State to pick up second conference win
Reading Time: 2 minutesThe Utah Valley University women got their second straight win in Western Athletic Conference play Saturday with a dominating 74-46 victory over Chicago State in the UCCU Center, lifting their conference record to 2-3 and their overall record to 9-11.
The Wolverines came out firing, shooting 57 percent in the first quarter including a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc en route to a 21-15 lead after one.
UVU’s defense was stifling as they closed the second quarter on a 15-4 run to take a 38-25 halftime lead. The defense held the Cougars to only 26 percent shooting in the first half. UVU never relinquished in the second half, winning it 36-21 for the final result.

Rebecca MaWhinney had a huge night on the glass, coming down with 15 of those rebounds.
MaWhinney recorded a double-double, adding 11 points to go with her rebounds. Sam Loggins led the team with 13 points, but the Wolverines spread the wealth with four players in double digits, including MaWhinney, Mariah Seals and Patrice Toston. Loggins also added eight rebounds and five blocks.
“I think that’s how this team is going to win,” said head coach Cathy Nixon. “Sharing the ball and winning by committee. It could be any player stepping up on any night.”
The Wolverines will try to carry their momentum onto the road with their next game coming at Seattle University January 28. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m. with live coverage on the WAC Digital Network.
