Huskies stay undefeated at home

Houston, Texas — The Houston Baptist Huskies upset the 23rd-ranked Utah Valley Wolverines 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in Western Athletic Conference men’s soccer action at Sorrels Field.

The loss drops UVU to 10-3-0 and 3-1 in WAC play while the Huskies improved to 6-6-0 and 2-2-0 in league play.  The Huskies are also 4-0 at home on the season.

UVU got on the board first when freshman Aaron Meyer scored in the 37th minute to help UVU take a 1-0 lead.  It was his fourth goal of the season.

Houston Baptist responded with a goal just three minutes later when Dominick Faletto scored in the 39th minute to make it 1-1.

Coming out of halftime, the Huskies wasted no time in scoring the go-ahead goal that also proved to be the game winner.  Alex Baez scored in the 51st minute to put Houston Baptist in front for good.  The Huskies outshot the Wolverines 14-11 in the match and it was the second straight match that Houston Baptist has defeated a nationally ranked opponent.  They defeated 19th-ranked Seattle on Friday night.

UVU returns home to host San Jose State on Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Clyde Field. The UVU women’s team hosts Grand Canyon in the first match of the doubleheader at 5 p.m.
