In one of my classes this year, I learned that, as a society, when we’re going by dates, we no longer use B.C. and A.D. to distinguish one from the other. B.C.E. and A.C. the new "politically correct" terms, meaning Before Common Era and After Common (I guess the "Era" is implied).
What the hell just happened? You can change the letters to mean whatever you want, but we’re all still going to be going by the year that Christ was born. If you were really offended by it, you’d change where the timeline begins, not the name of the timeline.
Why not change it to when we supposedly landed on the moon? Or even better, when Columbus "discovered" America?
That way, what we now know as 1492, would be 0. Then you could use your A.C. to mean After Columbus (the "Landed" being implied). Todays date would be 11/12/614 A.C.
Political correctness has become out of control. Obviously, there is a need for some sort of rule; but nowadays, it’s just ridiculous. And I’m not the only one who sees it this way.
Thank goodness for forms of media like The Office who rely upon ridiculing this nation’s lame obsessions, for comedy. Sarcasm-what a beautiful weapon.
But we’d better enjoy it while we have it. Some uptight white guy is probably becoming offended by it right now, and who knows how long it’ll be before sarcasm is added to the long list of political incorrectness.
